When used right, UI animations can bring out the best in your design. Motion, ranging from tiny to sweeping, can help the user understand complicated, new, and radical ideas in an instant.
On January 24, InVision Studio designer Pablo Stanley joined us to share his own best practices for UI animation, plus tips for animating with InVision Studio. Take a look at some of our favorite insights from Pablo right here, plus a Twitter Moment recap of the entire chat:
Here are my three principles. I invite you and your team to come up with the guidelines that make sense to you and your product.
– It has a purpose ??♀️
– It feels natural ?
– It adds character ?— InVision (@InVisionApp) January 24, 2019
Starting with a low fidelity allows you to try different things without falling in love with any solution—you’re just focused on the problem. When jumping straight to pixels you can lose some of that magic.

Some examples of motion no-nos:
? Don’t just try to be flashy
? Don’t overthink it
? Mind the performance
? Don’t make it too complicated
? Don’t forget the intention
? Think of lagging as your worst enemy
? Don’t abuse your new superpowers!@pablostanley #DesignerChat— InVision (@InVisionApp) January 24, 2019
